5 Original Tips for Summer Activities (and more) in Pilsen

If you’re planning to stop in Pilsen during your holiday or summer travels, then you can’t go astray by visiting the iconic brewery and the popular zoo, taking a stroll through the historical centre, cooling off in the corridors of the Medieval underground, or hiking to the top of the tallest church tower in the country, with a view all the way to the Bohemian Forest and the Alps. But these aren’t the only things to do in Pilsen. What other options do you have?

1) The Loos Interiors

World-renowned architect Adolf Loos designed works in Vienna, Prague, and Paris. But also in Pilsen, where you’ll find a collection of various apartments that he designed here between the two wars for local Jewish businessmen. These spaces are distinguished by their timeless design, interesting use of natural materials and non-traditional colours, and practical gadgets. 2) Bohemia Sekt

Of course, Pilsen and beer go hand in hand, but did you know that the Czech Republic’s most well-known sparkling wine is made just a few kilometres from Pilsen? You can head to Bohemia Sekt in Starý Plzenec to indulge in one of the commentated tours and wine tastings. Then finish your trip with a visit to the nearby Radyně Castle ruins, the Kozel Manor House, or the Rotunda of St. Peter and Paul.

3) Depo Moto Art

Over 40 historic automobiles, 80 motorcycles, and 30 bikes, as well as modern art in the form of paintings, statues, and photography, can be found in the former trolleybus hall. There are unique and historic display pieces here from Czech collectors, spread out over the more than 2000 m2 space, including a convertible once owned by the pre-war film star Lída Baarová, President Masaryk’s own limousine, and an armoured vehicle from the communist leader Klement Gottwald. 4) Farmapark u Toma

The Pilsen Zoo is undoubtedly wonderful, and together with its neighbour DinoPark, you can easily spend an entire day here. But if you prefer petting zoos, where you can actually enter the animals’ pens, then take a trip to “Farmapark u Toma”, located only a few kilometres outside of Pilsen. There are over 20 types of animals here, and you can enjoy the commentated feedings, a pony ride, and the multiple children’s playgrounds. And even dogs are allowed to enter the park.

5) Summer activities programme

Summer in Pilsen has the advantage that always something is going on, meaning you can visit the Capital of West Bohemia without any plans and still attend one of its many festivals right on the streets of the historical city centre or the brewery courtyard.
