Where to go for wine in Pilsen?

Cavino Where to go for wine in Pilsen?

Na břehu Rhóny

A new concept for a wine bar has made its way to the well-known wine-making address of Bezručova street. At Na břehu Rhóny you can taste test and pour your own wine as if you were still at home. Here you can enjoy primarily wine from small wine growers in France, specifically from the valley of the Rhône river, while also ordering perfectly paired sides, such as quiche, soups, various pâtés and cheeses. Tastings prepared by talented chefs as well as cultural events are also held in this restaurant.

Vineria Symposio

You can visit the new stylish wine bar Symposio for select, high-quality foreign wines. Here you can order various canapés and sandwiches with your wine in this cosy, low-lit, wooden interior. Most of the seating space at Symposio is indoors, however, a few tables and chairs can be found placed in front of the wine bar on warm-weather days. In addition, the owners organize guided tastings every month and brunches on weekends.

Prosekárna

Do you like good prosecco? High-quality prosecco has a simple, yet sophisticated, taste, a flowery/fruity undertone, and a light, refreshing fragrance. That explains why Italian wine growers really are so proud of it. And we’re proud too of the new prosecco bar in Pilsen, Prosekárna, which is built on its quality prosecco. You can find it on the magical Malá Street (see map), which is gradually becoming a paradise for pleasure-seekers, thanks to a number of businesses here. Prosekárna engages its audience not only with its wide assortment of prosecco, including everything from rosé to brut, but also with its modern interior and selection of delicious snacks.

Cavino

You can convince yourself that “wine is life” at the stylish Cavino café, which, in addition to brunch, coffee and delicious food, also offers the freshest wine selection for relaxed evenings. Cavino is located on the corner where Riegrova and Sedláčkova streets cross. Not only for glasses of good wine, it also offers a wide selection of tapas, which gives the place a light Spanish atmosphere.

Vinotéka Merlot – Zastávka

Here you can literally stop by for a glass, or an entire bottle, and something good to eat at the wine shop and bar Merlot – Zastávka. This establishment specializes primarily in choice French wines and champagnes, which you can then pair with specialty items, such as oysters, foie gras, and various cheeses and smoked meats. They also have a pleasant outdoor seating area.

The Restaurant Za oponou

Behind the curtain at the New Theatre in Pilsen, you’ll find a place to eat with the fitting name “The Restaurant Behind the Curtain”. This welcoming and cosy restaurant is open not only to actors, musicians, and other theatre goers but to the public as well. You’ll want to visit here for a glass of select Moravian wine and a wonderful dinner before that evening’s theatrical performance begins. Here they also hold regular degustations as well as wine and food pairings.

Wine bar Hrozen

You’ll find a cosy bar with an intimate and friendly atmosphere in Hrozen, which is located a few steps from the city square at Solní Street. Here you can enjoy both bottled Moravian and foreign wines at a good price, and you can even participate in one of the regularly held wine tastings. Simply stated, this is an establishment that true wine lovers frequent. There’s also a small outdoor terrace in the courtyard, which makes for a nice place to sit during the summer months.

Osteria Martinská and Garage Osteria

If you’re a fan of simple Italian cuisine paired with Italian wine, head over to the restaurant Osteria at Martinská Street 7  or to Garage Osteria at 56 Částkova Street. Here they sell the best spaghetti carbonara in Pilsen, affogato and, of course, they have a large wine shop full of Italian wines.

Akademie vín (Wine Academy)

You can find a piece of Moravia in Pilsen at Skrétova Street in Akademie vín. Here in the family atmosphere of a Moravian cellar, you can indulge in some local barrel wine at a fair price. In addition, wine tastings are held here every week, where visitors can try five select bottles of wine as well as fantastic Moravian champagnes.

Fine France

Fine France is not only an excellent French restaurant, cheese shop and shop of French specialties. You will also find a wine shop with a wide range of French wines and a very pleasant atmosphere. And if you go to the Pilsen Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning, you might find them there too.

U Kaštanu

This cult wine bar, where artists of every kind regularly meet, is always full. There are many reasons for this and it’s not just the Moravian wine that’s available here on the tap and to-go. In the summer, you can enjoy the pleasant outdoor seating at U kaštanu on Martinská Street, which is dominated by a giant chestnut tree. Okay, let’s not get it confused. In reality, it’s just a horse-chestnut tree, but after a few glasses, simply “chestnut tree” is much easier to remember, right?

MERUM

Are you looking for some truly pure wine? Then definitely make a stop on Pražská Street in the little shop offering Italian wines and delicacies known as MERUM. That’s because the word “Merum” is Latin for “pure”. And you can stop by here not only for a glass but also for the degustation options or maybe to buy an Italian coffee or cooking oil to use at home. The owners carefully select their goods directly from the suppliers and they live by their wines, literally.

Trip suggestion: Bohemia Sekt

To visit the king of sparkling wine, head to Bohemia Sekt, which can be found a short distance away from Pilsen, in the town of Starý Plzenec (Old Pilsen). Embarking on the Bohemia Sekt tour, together with its wine tasting section, is definitely worth your time. And don’t worry if you aren’t able to make the drive, every half hour a bus or train goes from Pilsen to Old Pilsen. Once you arrive, Bohemia Sekt is located but a few steps from the station.
