What will you see at the gallery?
The Gallery of Jiří Trnka is managed by UVU Plzeň (the Union of Visual Artists Pilsen), which was founded in 1990. Its members – painters, sculptors, designers, and artists from the applied arts and theories – display their creations here alongside art by regional artists. They put on about 40 different exhibits each year at the gallery and other Pilsen locations.
The organisation handles the gallery’s day to day but also plays a significant role in the cultural life in Pilsen and propagating the city and its connection to art even beyond our region, in both national and international expositions and conferences.
Thanks to the Gallery of Jiří Trnka, you’ll also encounter the Colour on the Street project, which takes works of art from the gallery to outdoor spaces during the annual Festival On the Street. The gallery then presents works by German artists as part of a collaboration that also sees Czech pieces displayed in Germany.
Where can you buy the art by regional artists?
Only a few steps down, on Dominikánská Street, you’ll find the gallery’s boutique. Depending on your specific taste, you can pick from the wide array of art here, including paintings, drawings, plastic arts, prints, ceramics, jewellery, applied graphics, and designer pieces.
How to get to the gallery?
The Gallery of Jiří Trnka is right next door to the Pilsen Municipal Gallery. It’s quite simple to get here, given it’s also next to the Visit Plzeň Tourist Information Centre on Republic Square, a short walk from Pilsen City Hall.
