Collection of the Gallery of West Bohemia

The Gallery of West Bohemia’s collection covers the historic time period of the 14th century to the present, and apart from the individual, top-rate works of art, it also contains extraordinary pieces of high quality from the 19th century. The collection proudly boasts Czech art from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries as well as works of Czech modernism, which includes a particularly valuable collection of Cubism. You can also expect to see works by Karel Purkyně, Mikoláš Aleš, Julius Mařák, Antonín Slavíček, Jan Preisler, Bohumil Kubišta, Emil Filla, Václav Špála, Augustin Němejc, František Sequens, Hugo Boettinger, Adriena Šimotová and others.

Meat Market and “The 13”

The gallery’s collection is divided into two exhibition halls. The first being the Masné krámy Exhibition Hall, which can be found in the building’s original, medieval meat market, whereas “The 13” Exhibition Hall is located in a nearby Gothic and Renaissance-style home. Apart from the exhibitions, concerts and cultural events are also regularly held at both locations. You will find both halls not far from one another on Pilsen’s Pražská Street. The Gallery of West Bohemia does not yet have space for a permanent exhibition, nevertheless, the construction of a new gallery building is currently in planning.
