What will you see at the gallery?
At the Gallery of Ladislav Sutnar, you’ll find exhibits dedicated to working students and educators from both the local university and abroad. The gallery primarily focuses on contemporary design and the applied arts. You can also visit exhibitions by foreign artists and institutions associated with the school. For instance, it collaborates with partner cities and the other European Capitals of Culture – Pilsen itself was given this title in 2015, and the gallery further cultivates this legacy. Apart from the exhibits dedicated to the works of individual artists, you can also discover group projects here. Then there’s the creations by the laureates of the Jiří Trnka Award.
Every year, the university gallery commemorates renowned artist, teacher, and world-famous designer Ladislav Sutnar. He influenced not only the development of the Czech applied arts and design but he also lived abroad, leaving a significant impact in America. With exhibits of his specific works and expositions tied to his creations, communicating with them, or strongly inspired by them, the gallery brings the public closer to his vision as an artist and designer.
