What to expect at the farmhouse?
The National Cultural Monument known as the Old Farmhouse “U Matoušů” maps the evolution of rural, folk architecture and the lifestyle in Pilsen from the 18th–20th century. Here you can view the freely accessible expositions in the granary and barn as well as thematic exhibits in the former stables and farmhouse. As part of the farmhouse tour, you’ll get to take a look into the home of a wealthy rural family. You’ll discover what life and work were like at the farmhouse and see the farmer and his wife’s formal attire, which was still worn until the end of the 19th century. On two storeys, the exposition in the granary will show you the grain’s journey from sowing to harvesting and how it’s processed. And in the spacious barn, you can check out the historic farming equipment on display.
Commentated tours
Before visiting the farmhouse, you can book one of two commentated tours in advance. While touring the living quarters, you’ll learn what it was like to work and live here. The tour takes 45 minutes. The other tour will show you around the Bolevecká náves (the Bolevec village green) grounds and during which you will learn about the history of the surrounding buildings and their owners.
If you’d like to see the entire farmhouse and its grounds, peer into every corner, and discover everything left out during the basic tour, then order a special tour with the Old Farmhouse’s caretaker. During this hour-long tour, you’ll take an even deeper look into the mysteries of farming, view the farmhouse’s living quarters, and see the expositions in the stables and granary. You’ll learn about the complete renovations of this historical structure and its plans for the future. The special tour must be reserved no later than 14 days in advance.
