Renovating the park
Can you guess what used to be located in place of today’s Park Lobzy? Before it was a space of sprawling green grass, you would have found a sandstone quarry here. So much mining took place here, however, that the surrounding area was left neglected and destroyed. It wasn’t until 1935 that Park Lobzy came to be, tasked with refreshing and reviving the local environment. Then, during its renovations in 2015, woody plants were introduced and two water features were created. New children’s playgrounds were also added, and various walking paths meander through areas of the park.
Walks, sports, and playgrounds
Park Lobzy is a great place for children and adults. You’ll enjoy a nice time here no matter the season. Various cultural events are also held here during the year. While going for a stroll, you’ll discover plenty of interwoven footpaths and charming little nooks. You can sit on a bench or near one of the groundwater ponds, where you can also swim in the summer. A terraced sitting area can then be found along the park’s rolling landscape. Here you’ll enjoy a beautiful view of the entire park, just like the one from atop the hill, easily noticeable from a distance thanks to its wooden “lighthouse”, which serves as a children’s climbing frame. Kids can also play on the playground with a sandpit, jump around on the trampolines, and sail down the slide and cable swing. You’ll then find a water playground at the second pond, where children can create dams and play with the water pumps.
Running enthusiasts will surely enjoy easy runs along the river, or opt for a bit of elevation by following any one of the footpaths up the hill. There’s also an outdoor workout area with multiple machines. And if all the exercise is making you thirsty, you can stop by the small bistro located nearby, offering non-alcoholic and alcoholic beer, coffee, ice cream, and a few snacks.
Park Lobzy also has hiking and bike paths. You can set off in the same direction of the river’s current to Doubravka, or head in the opposite direction to Božkov. We recommend the Úslava Valley educational path (Údolí Úslavy). You can then connect with the Berounka Valley educational path (Údolí Berounky) where the two rivers meet next to the Church of St. George (kostel sv. Jiří), which will take you all the way to the Bolevec Ponds.
